Europeans have become impatient and skeptical about the European Project. With no decisive economic recovery in sight – but widespread unemployment, austerity measures and increased immigration fears – the spectre of crisis has cast a long shadow across the continent. But one artist, resolute in his beliefs in the constitution of Europe, wishes to marshal the community towards a sense of unity. Who better to play the Cheerleader of Europe than the neutral Asian? Hailing from the economic miracle city-state of Singapore, he is Left and Right, East and West, In and Out and shake it all about. The performance promises a utopic finale, complete with confetti.

Everyone must be happy in the end.

Daniel Kok studied BA (Honours) Fine Art & Critical Theory at Goldsmiths College (London), MA (Distinction) in Solo/Dance/Authorship (SODA) at the Inter-University Centre for Dance (HZT, Berlin), and completed the Advanced Performance and Scenography Studies (APASS) in Brussels. In 2008, he was the laureate of the Young Artist Award from National Arts Council (Singapore).

His works have toured extensively in Europe and Asia. In recent years, he has also begun showing his work in the USA and Australia. “The Gay Romeo” (2011) was selected as Priority Company for the Aerowaves European Network and shortlisted as Top 3 works at the Emerging Artists Platform of Festival/Tokyo (2012). “Cheerleader of Europe” (2014) was nominated for the Prix Jardin D’Europe at the [8:Tension] platform of the ImpulsTanz festival in Vienna. Also an avid pole dancer, he has won the SG Pole Challenge (2012) and represented Singapore in the grand finals of the International Pole Championships (2013). His new work, “Bunny” is a collaboration with Luke George (AUS) that studies rope bondage.
