Carmen Muñoz is one of Hiroshima’s great discoveries and it is with her the Hiroshima decides to conclude this season of 2019-2020. Pursuing its commitment to highlight emergent flamenco dancers, this year the venue presents a talented performer who has just graduated from the Institut del Teatre and demonstrates a deep understanding of flamenco’s artistic legacy. Proposing a journey through the bodies of the dancers Fanny Elsler, Carmen Mora, Manuela Vargas and La Chana, Muñoz builds up her own body through theirs. Accompanied by the cantaor Pepe de Pura, the young choreographer performs a complex compositional task; on the one hand she reviews the aesthetic contributions of each of these pioneers in neo-flamenco, and on the other she focuses on the concept of hysteria, redeeming it on stage in a singular, expressive system that is powerful and deeply feminine. An artist to discover.
