Ana Rita’s work present us the past as an enlarged present, where ghosts that mean absences, warn us and enlighten our path. Ana Rita embodies those absences so that the frenetic rhythm and digital transparency of our days does not permanently erase them from our memory. To do this, she undertook a trip to her inner Portugal, rediscovering popular songs that speak of women and their condition. These are songs that describe curious situations, that suggest particular or collective stories, but above all that remove the veil of days and let us see who we were, who we are. Fantôme Méchant is a wonderful theatrical play, structured from both choreographic and of course musical language; it’s full of small incarnate symbols that project a very interesting socio-cultural landscape. This is the little gem with which we have decided to open such a peculiar season, and we do it because it implies an intimate and at the same time geographic journey and because it releases great beauty throughout its duration. Ana Rita is a Lisbon artist widely supported by the Paris CDN and essential to understand the new Portuguese scene.

Ana Rita’s work is in a way of presenting the past as a dilated present, where ghosts, that is, absences, warn us and illuminate our path.
